Hyder Mountain Loop Bicycle Ride

About

(9.9 miles; Intermediate and above) Head into the country on a well-shouldered road, passing by the Pigeon River. Once over Interstate 40 continue down the river valley until it is time to climb Mt. Hyder. Most of the climb is conquered in the first half-mile with views of pastures and woods rewarding your effort. Soon enough your brakes, and common sense, will be tested on a steep, twisting descent to another crossing of the Pigeon River. Then it’s just a left turn and a right turn back to your bike carrier. Ride begins at Longs Chapel United Methodist Church on Old Clyde Rd (Off Hwy 209). Lake Junaluska, NC. Park in the gravel area next to the Fire Department across from the church.
