Check out our nearby hiking trails for some adventure served on the rocks. Step to it!

Black Balsam Knob

See spectacular views with an easy journey. Black Balsam Knob is a tree-less bald that sits at an elevation of 6,214 ft and offers a spacious view of the surrounding mountains. Enjoy a picturesque picnic on a sunny day or capture some dreamy family photographs to share. If you’re looking to extend your hike, continue onto the Art Loeb trail for a 5-mile loop.

Devil’s Courthouse

At an elevation of 5,720 feet, this beautiful overlook allows visitors to see three states: South Carolina, Georgia, and Tennessee. This devilishly impressive view is a 20-minute hike up a partially paved trail. Enjoy panoramic views at the top and be on the lookout for some unique creatures. The Devil’s Courthouse is home to a selection of rare plant species and some high-flying birds.

Looking Glass Falls

Feel the refreshing mist of a 60-foot cascading waterfall. This natural beauty is flowing with crisp mountain water and is the perfect place to grab a photo. Observe Looking Glass Falls from the top of the trail’s stairs or take the steps down to view the falls from the lower platform.

Midnight Swimming Hole

Looking to cool off on your mountain trek? Take a 3-mile trail to the crystal-clear waters of Midnight Swimming Hole. During the warmer months, this pool is the perfect spot to take a plunge—this water is cold year-round. If you want to keep the fun rolling, check out Mouse Creek falls and Bent Creek trail to extend your hike.

From a tri-state view to a 60-foot waterfall, wherever you choose to wander there is so much out there to explore. When you stop and take a picture, be sure to tag us @VisitNCSmokies or use the #HayNow.
