Our charming mountain town has several holiday traditions, and we invite you and your loved ones to join us for them! Here are just a few:
  1. Picking the Perfect Tree
  2. Attending The Waynesville Christmas Parade
  3. Experiencing A Night Before Christmas
  4. Having a Winchester Creek Farm Holiday
  5. Shopping for Christmas Gifts and Décor

Picking the Perfect Tree

Ready to festively decorate your space? One of the most popular traditions, and one that is best done in Waynesville, is picking out the perfect Christmas tree! People from near and far come to our corner of the NC Smoky Mountains to secure one of our beautiful, homegrown Fraser Fir Christmas trees, wreaths, and garland for their fresh scents. You can find one for your crew at one of our mountainside’s four farms, Boyd Mountain Christmas Tree Farm, Mehaffey Tree Farm, Smoky Mountain Christmas Tree Farm, and WNC Landscaping. (Be sure to visit early to secure your perfect pick while they’re still available!)

Attending The Waynesville Christmas Parade

What’s your Hallmark holiday town without a Christmas parade? Kick off the holidays with the Town of Waynesville on Main Street the first week of December for the annual Waynesville Christmas Parade. Word on the streets is that Santa himself will be attending!

Experiencing A Night Before Christmas

Want to know a town favorite you won’t find anywhere else? Step into a holiday-decked Downtown Waynesville for A Night Before Christmas, traditionally held beginning to mid-December. Take in our winter wonderland featuring hundreds of luminaries lining the brick sidewalks, twinkling balls in the trees and windows of downtown shops, and lamp posts wrapped in velvet ribbon and garland. And while witnessing all of this, enjoy carolers, live music, old fashioned horse-drawn wagon rides, and First Baptist Church’s Living Nativity scene under the stars. Miss the Christmas parade earlier in the month? Don’t fret, Mr. and Mrs. Claus will be making an appearance here as well!

Having a Winchester Creek Farm Holiday

Our fuzzy, spirited farm friends here at Winchester Creek Farm enjoy celebrating the season too! Visit for a guided tour featuring holiday decorations, a Christmas cookie and candy cane, see Santa, and have the opportunity to write and mail holiday letters to him!

Shopping for Christmas Gifts and Décor

Shop this holiday through the streets of Waynesville! Find unique gifts like handcrafted items and decor from boutiques, antique shops, and art galleries like Soul Sister’s Depot, Logan’s Gifts & Home Décor, Twigs & Leaves Gallery, and Southern Charm Vintage Market. Whether you’re shopping for yourself, a special someone, or decking the halls of your home, you won’t leave this merry season empty-handed. With all of these traditions, we can’t wait to see how you and your loved ones choose to enjoy your holiday in Waynesville. So be sure to tag @VisitNCSmokies and #HayNow for a chance to be featured in our upcoming marketing materials.
