Main Street
The hustle and bustle of Main Street was once the heartbeat of every American town. Luckily, Waynesville’s Main Street has flourished as the town’s hub for shopping, dining, art, and entertainment. Take a stroll down Waynesville’s central drag and you’ll have a day’s worth of things to do. During most seasons of the year, there’s a festival, block party, chili cook-off, art demonstration, car show, or some other type of fun event.
Popular Breweries
Waynesville boasts a strong list of breweries. Boojum Brewing, founded in 2015, is a flagship business that brings in beer lovers from all over the country. After trying Boojum’s award-winning ales, travel to Frog Level to enjoy delicious beers at Frog Level Brewing. Both Boojum and Frog Level offer outdoor seating during warmer months and live music many weekends throughout the year. Once you’re finished with Waynesville’s breweries, saunter over to neighboring Canton to taste test a brew from BearWaters Brewing Company.
Wine Shops
You can get a good bottle of wine at the local grocery store or opt-in for a full experience at one of our wine shops. Owners and curators at these establishments work with top reps and know their product, and provide unique offerings not found at local stores. The Classic Wineseller on Church Street and Bosu’s Wine Shop on Miller Street are popular hot spots for locals and tourists. The Classic Wineseller offers live music in a cool cellar setting, reminiscent of speakeasies of the past. And on Thursday nights, Bosu’s offers their Five for $5 where patrons can try five different global wines while dining on yummy tapas-style dishes.
Coffee Shop Hopping
There is no shortage of coffee shops in Waynesville. All three shopping districts, Main Street, Frog Level, and Hazelwood, offer delectable java. Panacea CoffeeHouse, Café & Roastery, a longtime favorite, sits in an old warehouse in the Frog Level district. Visitors can enjoy coffee drinks, tea, wine, and beer while there or purchase pounds of house-roasted coffee to enjoy at home. Orchard Coffee on Depot Street is new on the scene but has made a huge impact, quickly becoming a favorite and even being highlighted in Food & Wine Magazine. Hazelwood is home to Smoky Mountain Roasters, a veteran in the industry. Along with these three, many other bakeries and restaurants can satiate your need for a good cup of joe.
Theatre
Few small towns offer a strong community theatre program, but Waynesville is home to HART Theatre, which was founded in 1985. Actors and singers from around the region travel to be part of the impressive lineup of yearly shows. The main stage auditorium is a gorgeous structure in and of itself and next to the theatre is Harmons’ Den Bistro, offering a unique dining experience. Along with the core lineup of shows, the theatre also offers the Kids at HART program which features talented school-aged actors and singers. Theatergoers from across the country visit Waynesville to enjoy a slew of plays and musicals.
Plan your trip, book your hotel room, and come explore Waynesville, the mountain town that offers the perfect blend of small-town nostalgia and bustling city arts and culture.
