These days, if you want to go on an overnight trip, you have more options than ever: all you have to do is hop online, Google your destination, and bingo—hotels! AirBnB! VRBO! Campgrounds! The list goes on and on.
It’s exciting for us because it just invites more and more people to discover everything we love about Haywood County. Lucky for us, we have plenty of hotel options, most of which are in Maggie Valley. So if you’re planning a trip to Haywood County, here are five reasons why you need to consider staying in a Maggie Valley hotel:
1.You’re supporting a local business.
So many of Maggie Valley’s hotels are run by local families who are passionate about what they do—like Joseph and Simone McElroy, who took over the Meadowlark Motel and renovated the rooms to create an Appalachian-chic experience. “This motel has been in our family for over 40 years. Taking ownership of it was continuing a tradition that’s important to our family,” Joseph told us. They’re dedicated to making every guest’s visit to the Meadowlark Motel relaxing and fun. “We’re adding various amenities to the experience, including Saturday night barbecues, the Maggie Valley Happy Hour on Fridays, music, and better products in the rooms.”
2.You’ve got a personal concierge.
Want to know the best place for an old-fashioned mountain breakfast? Or where the elk have been hanging out in the morning? The friendly hotel staff can’t wait to help you out. Because they’re all passionate locals, they’ll help you see Western North Carolina in a completely new light.
3.You’ve got a front seat to the creek.
Hiding along the northern edge of Soco Road is Jonathan Creek. Many of Maggie Valley’s hotels are nestled along the banks of this beautiful setting. And they’ve really taken advantage of this location, too—from Adirondack chairs, hammocks, landscaping and more, it’s the perfect place to relax and forget the outside world.
4. It’s affordable.
You may be shocked at the cost of a hotel room here, especially if you’ve been to nearby Asheville. In fact, the hotel rates are comparable or better than the rates from Airbnb or VRBO—an anomaly in most markets. Plus, you’re close enough to Asheville or Waynesville to take a quick day trip. You’ll have more vacation money left to try out that trendy new restaurant, buy that handmade souvenir, or spring for the pricier hiking boots.
5. You can easily get around town but still enjoy the scenic mountains.
At a Maggie Valley Hotel, you can be as close to the action as you want to be. Take a walk to Dale's Wheels through Time Museum or Elevated Mountain Distillery, or pop over to the Elevated Mountain Distillery for an event. Hop in the car to take a short drive to your favorite dinner spot. If you want to take a hike or find an outdoor adventure, it’s easy to find your way around the main street.
